Staying out of the sun can increase your risk of breast cancer
1. As reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition
2. Researchers from Creighton University in Omaha enrolled 1.179 women aged 55 or older with no history of cancer.
3. The women were given calcium alone, calcium with Vit D, or placebo for 4 years.
4. Women taking calcium alone had some benefit of decreased breast cancer, but, women taking calcium with
Vit D reduced the risk of developing breast cancer by more than three quarters.
A. The message has been that women should avoid sun exposure to avoid skin cancer.
Now studies reveal that doing so can increase the risk of breast cancer.
B. Vitamin D can be gotten from sun exposure or from dietary sources or vitamins.
C. Most Vitamin D is gotten from sun exposure. But sun exposure is less in winter and when women are reluctant to expose themselves to the sun for fear of skin cancer. This leaves many women deficient in Vitamin D.
