SafeTouch Breast Lump Relocation Marker Sheet

How to use SafeTouch For Breast Lump Relocation

Indications For Use
The SafeTouch sheet and marking pen are used to mark the location of breast lumps you find while doing your monthly breast self-examination. (For instructions on how to do Breast Self Examination please click here) Proper use of the sheet will require the help of an assistant. This device is intended only to serve as a means of relocating a breast lump discovered during breast self-examination. The intention is that once a breast lump has been discovered and its location has been marked upon the SafeTouch sheet, the woman will make an appointment with her physician for reexamination and follow up. SafeTouch is not intended as a breast examination device.

Description of SafeTouchSheets
The SafeTouch consists of a clear plastic sheet preprinted with a center circle and arrow for orientation and a numbered grid for breast lump localization. The underside of the SafeTouch sheet has areas of light adhesive to anchor the sheet while in use. The marker sheet is used to mark or record the location of suspected breast lumps found during your breast self-examination.

Directions for Use
Directions assume you have already found a breast lump during your breast self-examination and you want to be able to relocate it when your physician examines you.
  • To apply SafeTouch, you will lay face up with the breast, containing the lump, uncovered and your arm on the same side of the body lying beside your head. See Figure 1.

  • Your assistant will remove the SafeTouch sheet and marking pen from the plastic tube they came in. They will lay the SafeTouch sheet on a flat dry surface and carefully remove it from its backing sheet taking care to leave the reinforcing paper strip along the left and right edges for ease of use. See Figure 2.

  • Your assistant will place the SafeTouch marker sheet over your breast, positioning the pre-printed, adhesive coated circle over the nipple, with the arrow pointing straight up. Use the crosshairs in the center circle to help position the sheet. See Figure 3. NOTE: When SafeTouch is positioned correctly, the SafeTouch logo will be at the lower right comer of the sheet.

  • Reexamine your breast through the SafeTouch(TM) sheet to find the breast lump you are concerned about. Have your assistant mark the location with the pen from the kit. (Fig C)

  • Your assistant will then remove the SafeTouch sheet from your chest and place it face down on a smooth, flat surface. They will then reapply the paper backing, shiny side facing the SafeTouch sheet. It is easiest to roll the sheet and backing so that the grid and numbers are on the outside and easily read. Put the role up SafeTouch sheet and pen back into the tube they came in and make an appointment to see your physician. Your doctor will reapply the sheet to your chest as described above. The mark made on the sheet will indicate the location of the suspected breast lump.
